E scams and warnings

Many agencies and organizations make it a point to post warnings about scams making the rounds.  These links will lead you to warning pages on the different sites.

Federal Agencies

Many Federal agencies not only post scam warnings, they also have the authority to investigate and prosecute those who create, promote and profit from scams

Federal Bureau of Investigation-in addition to updated warnings about scams, this page offers convenient links to report a complaint if you have been scammed.

Federal Trade Commission-The Federal Trade Commission is the agency mandated to handle consumer protection.  Before you join anything visit their site.  You will find links leading to ton’s of great Consumer protection information covering everything from scams and identity theft to business guidelines and deceptive business practices.

Financial Crimes Enforcement Network-FinCEN’s mission is to enhance U.S. national security, deter and detect criminal activity, and safeguard financial systems from abuse by promoting transparency in the U.S. and international financial systems.

Securities and Exchange Commission-The mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly and efficient markets, and facilitate capital information.

 

State and Local Agencies

Every State Attorney General also has the authority to investigate and prosecute scams within their state.  To find the Attorney General for your state, visit the National Association of Attorney Generals.

You can also file a report with your local law enforcement agency.
